Clarkstown On Prepayment Of Taxes

The prepayment of 2018 property taxes will enable residents to claim the full deduction of local taxes on their 2017 income taxes.

From The Town of Clarkstown: Supervisor George Hoehmann announced today the Town of Clarkstown will accept prepayment of the 2018 town and county taxes this week. The prepayment of 2018 property taxes will enable residents to claim the full deduction of local taxes on their 2017 income taxes which under the recently passed federal tax reform limits the deduction for state and local taxes to $10,000 per year starting in 2018.

The Town Clerk’s office will begin accepting in person payment on Thursday, December 28, 2017 and Friday, December 29, 2017. The office will remain open from 9:00AM through 7:00PM both days. Additional staff will be on hand to facilitate the collection both days.

In addition, the Town is working with its vendor to enable online payment, which should be in place by Thursday allowing for online payment.

Also, Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order allows for the early collection and extends this to include mailed payments postmarked on or before December 31, 2017.

Residents can the Town Clerk’s office at 639-2010 or the Supervisor’s Office at 639-2050 with any questions.

“I am grateful to the Town Clerk and staff for their efforts that will enable residents to pay their taxes early to claim the additional deduction,” said Supervisor Hoehmann.

After meeting this morning with County Executive Ed Day to plan for the prepayment procedure, all five towns in Rockland County will allow for prepayment of 2018 Town and County taxes.

As to the 2018-2019 School Taxes, school taxes are not available to be prepaid in 2017, as the public does not vote on the school budget until May 2018.

This is in compliance with NYS law and Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Executive Order allowing early collections of Town and County taxes to accommodate the residents and property owners of New York State.
