Clarkstown Receives 2014 Consul General's Commendation
Officials from the Japanese Consulate in New York City visited the district on Jan. 29.
Clarkstown was recognized last night for its long history of Japanese language classes offered throughout the district.
“The Japanese language programs offered at Clarkstown Central School District were the first such programs at the high school level in New York State in 1963. Resumed in 1996, then expanded thereafter, the program has contributed to the development and advancement of Japanese language education in New York State as well as to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the United States.”
