ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — County officials are adamant that, during the new coronavirus outbreak, residents should buy just their fair share of necessary supplies. However, they have switched to a different approach from their Hoarding Prevention Order of March 16.

"Rockland County is committed to ensuring that all of our residents have the chance to purchase the medicine, soap, cleaning products, food, baby formula, toilet paper and other items that they need," Rockland County Executive Ed Day said.

However, he announced, the latest Executive Order received from the Governor’s Office seeks to limit local Executive Orders that apply to COVID-19 across all of New York State.

So the Hoarding Prevention Order is now rescinded.

All levels of government are doing their best to coordinate responses and orders and that occasionally requires adjustment during this rapidly changing situation, said county spokesman John Lyon.

The Rockland County Office of Consumer Protection will still be making their presence known and local stores are appreciated for continuing to take steps to limit the number of certain items that can be purchased.

"Despite this local interference from the Governor’s Office, we have every faith that our residents will continue to look out for their neighbors and that our local stores will ensure people do the right thing," Day said. "We ask our residents to report any instances of price gouging to their office at 845-364-3901. There will be no tolerance for anyone trying to take advantage of the people of this County."
