NEW CITY, NY (June 10, 2014) - The Rockland County Legislature's Environmental Committee will meet on Wednesday evening to discuss the creation of a Task Force on Water Resources Management.

The mission of the task force as proposed in a resolution sponsored by Legislator Harriet Cornell, Chair of the Environmental Committee and Alden Wolfe, Chairman of the Legislature, with support from County Executive Ed Day will be to develop a comprehensive water policy that ensures a safe, long-term water supply for Rockland County that incorporates sustainability, demand-side principles and conservation.

The Executive and Legislative branches of County Government will appoint the nineteen member task force. The structure will include representation from the Executive and Legislative branches, designated county departments, town and village government, school, business and scientific communities, and United Water NY. Relevant data is available to be utilized by the task force and is contained in the 2011 Rockland County Comprehensive Plan, various reports and studies drafted by County departments, the report issued by the U.S. Geological Service and public information on record with the NYS Public Service Commission and Departments of State and Environmental Conservation.
Legislator Cornell first proposed a Task Force to develop a water management plan on October 1, 2013 in testimony to the Public Service Commission at a hearing held at Clarkstown South High School.
The Environmental Committee meeting will take place on June 11, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Legislature’s chambers, 11 New Hempstead Rd., New City, NY.
