COVID-19 Death Toll Rises Again In The Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — As the summer coronavirus surge continues across the United States, 15 New Yorkers died from COVID-19 Tuesday, including two people from Dutchess County and two from Rockland.

In Rockland, where there were 19 people hospitalized with confirmed or suspected cases, the cumulative death toll stood at 970 as of Wednesday afternoon.

In Dutchess, 21 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. The death toll stood at 452.

As of Tuesday, the positivity rate continued to rise slowly in the region.

• Orange: 5.5
• Putnam: 4.2
• Rockland: 5.0
• Ulster: 3.0
• Westchester: 4.1

Statewide, the positivity rate Tuesday was 2.86 percent. The level of community transmission remains high according to the Centers for Disease Control.

As of Tuesday, 22.7 million people had received a vaccination in New York, with 42,956 getting vaccinated that day. According to the CDC, 57.9 percent of all New Yorkers are fully vaccinated.
