Driver Survives Crash Off Cliff Near West Point: Fire Department

A pickup truck crashed over the Route 9W barrier and off the side of the mountain Wednesday, according to fire department officials.

"Amazingly the driver of the of this vehicle sustained no injuries. Thank you to all the agencies that assisted in this rescue especially the West Point fire department and the Cornwall Fire Department," officials at the Fort Montgomery Fire Department said on Facebook.

A single-car crash on Route 9W closed the highway northbound between Storm King Highway and Stony Lonesome Road for hours Wednesday.

State transportation officials reported the closure at 2:43 p.m. At 3: 50 p.m. town officials in Highlands reported it would stay closed until midnight.
