Death Toll In Rockland County Tops 600 From COVID-19

The county, like the rest of downstate New York, has been hit hard by the new coronavirus pandemic.

NEW CITY, NY — The death toll from COVID-19 reached 602 on Friday, according to Rockland County's most recent update.

According to the New York state Health Department, 51 people in Rockland tested positive for the new coronavirus on Friday, out of 1,035 people tested. Over the past two and a half months, 41,501 people have been tested in Rockland and 30.6 percent of them had positive results.

The virus is most active now in Haverstraw and West Haverstraw, where 5 percent of the population has tested positive.

Overall, the outbreak has been largest in Spring Valley and Monsey, the only communities (by zip code) with more than 1,000 cases each. The New City zip code is third with 973 cases as of Friday. Remember: the local community tracking is only an approximation. As of May 12, of the 12,637 reported positive cases within Rockland County, 9,080 addresses had been confirmed by the Rockland County Department of Health. Of the 9,080 addresses, 432 records contained unknown errors which prevented them from being attributed to a Township.
