Decomposing Body Found In Basement: Clarkstown Police

NEW CITY, NY — Clarkstown police launched an investigation Sunday after a decomposing body was found in a basement room at 45 Ruth Drive in New City.

Officers went to the home after receiving a call requesting a welfare check for the residents at that location. They were met by family members who said they had discovered a strong odor coming from a room in the basement.

The officers located human remains in a heavily decomposed state.

The Rockland County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and removed the body.

The Clarkstown Police Department's Detective Bureau began an investigation into the circumstances of the death.
