Gas prices just keep going up this spring. The national average has been going up a little every day in April, according to AAA. Plus gasoline is 30 cents higher than this time last year across the country.
There were significant price increases in mid-April on the East Coast, as refiners went through the seasonal transition to summer-blend gasoline. The good news was that New York was not one of the 10 markets with the highest increases, AAA said. Compare that to neighboring New Jersey, where gas prices went up 43 cents since last year.
The current average in New York is $2.54, up from $2.427 this time last month and $2.286 this time last year. In metro NYC, the average price is $2.65, AAA said. Will prices go still higher? Considering an extension to the production cut started in November, participating OPEC countries plan to meet May 25.
