Grand Jury Indicts Rockland Eye Doc Accused Of Sex Abuse Of 12-Year-Old Girl
The 54-year-old faces up to seven years in prison over charges that he "subjected an innocent 12-year-old child to sexual abuse."

NEW CITY, NY — A Rockland County grand jury has handed down an indictment against an ophthalmologist accused of horrific sexual abuse against a child.
Hiten Lakhani, of New City, was indicted by the grand jury on two counts of first degree sexual abuse and one count of first degree attempted sexual abuse for allegedly subjecting a 12-year-old girl to sexual conduct, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II has announced.
"As alleged, the defendant subjected an innocent 12-year-old child to sexual abuse," Walsh said. "My office will work with any law enforcement agency and use all available resources to protect children in Rockland County. I would like to thank the Clarkstown Police Department for working closely with Rockland County District Attorney's Office Special Victims Unit on this investigation. The defendant will now be held accountable for his alleged criminal actions."

The 54-year-old was arraigned on Wednesday. He was ordered to surrender his passport and the case was adjourned to November 16. Lakhani faces up to a maximum of seven years in state prison for the top count.
