Haverstraw Man Sexually Abused 7-Year-Old Girl: DA

The 46-year-old made a plea deal during jury selection.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A Haverstraw man accused of sexually abusing a young girl for more than three years has taken a plea deal, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced Tuesday.

Sherman Brody, 46, pleaded guilty to one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a class "B" felony, before the Hon. Kevin F. Russo. The case had begun jury selection in anticipation of trial late last week, Walsh said.

From late 2017 to April 2021, Brody engaged in a course of sexual abuse of the girl at various locations in Haverstraw, prosecutors said. The child was 7 years old when the abuse began.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on Aug. 24. Brody will be sentenced to up to 14 years in State Prison with a period of 10 years Post-Release Supervision. He will have to register as a Sex Offender upon his release from custody, Walsh said.

"Heinous crimes against children are some of the most egregious offenses in our society. The plea of guilty by the defendant today is a key step as we hold him responsible for his actions," Walsh said. "We can only hope the victim in this case can recover from these horrific crimes.
The arrest of the defendant is a direct result of multiple Rockland County law enforcement agencies working in coordination to get justice for the victim.”
