Here are the Dumbest Places to Live in the Mid Hudson Valley, Study Says

Four local communities are among the top 10 dumbest places in New York, according to RoadSnacks. Check out the full rankings.

Patch regrets to inform some Mid Hudson Valley residents they might not be as smart as they think they are, according to a study by RoadSnacks.

The infotainment website compiled a list of 169 cities and towns in New York with populations greater than 5,000 and ranked them from dumbest to smartest. Approximately 42 local communities made the list.

Four Mid Hudson cities unfortunately cracked the top 10: Monticello, at No. 1; West Haverstraw, No. 2; Spring Valley, No. 5, cited specially for a "shockingly high population of uneducated adults;" and Poughkeepsie, No. 7.

How RoadSnacks determined the dumbest cities in New York:

  • Percentage of the city’s population with less than a high school education (Age 25+)
  • Percentage of high school dropouts (Ages 16-19)

The website also compared graduation rates of the entire population, not just the current rates for high schoolers. Check out RoadSnacks to see the full rankings.

The dumbest community in the entire state was found to be Monticello due to the village’s high rate of teenage high school dropouts:

Teenage High School Dropouts: 22.1%
Located in southeastern New York, Monticello unfortunately ranks as the dumbest city in all of New York.
Monticello has the second highest rate of teenage high school dropouts in the state, with about 22 of every 100 teenagers opting out of basic education each year.
The city has the identical rate of adult residents without GED, with 22.1% of Monticello residents over the age of 25 lacking a GED.

Of the rankings, RoadSnacks does say its “article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don’t freak out.”
