They found Jairo Danilo Sandoval del Cid, 40, of Pomona bleeding severely. He died at the scene. The suspect stabbed Gutierrez once in the chest and once in the back, police alleged.

The suspect is Jose Alejandro Madrid, 23, who lives in Ramapo but whose address is unverified, the chief said. "The suspect flees the house on foot — out the front door and he's gone."

Police tracking Madrid discovered he got a ride from someone who took him to the Port Authority bus terminal in New York City. With help from the Port Authority police they concluded he was on a bus to Boston. The Boston Police Department arrested him when the bus pulled in there, Weidel said.

He thanked the Port Authority, Boston police, the Rockland County Sheriff's Department, the Medical Examiner's Office, the District Attorney's office, Clarkstown and Spring Valley police departments and the Palisades Parkway police for their help.

At this time charges are pending. Madrid is going to be charged with an intentional murder and police will work with the District Attorney's Office, he said.

"We still have a very active investigation going on," Weidel said. "It's really unclear at this point; we're still trying to figure out what the dispute was all about."

Madrid has a family member who lives at the house. A large kitchen knife was recovered there, he said.

The house where the killing occurred is owned by a Brooklyn-based limited liability corporation, The Journal News reported.
