Hudson Valley: Air Pollution Alert In Effect Thursday
There's a health advisory in effect for Rockland, Westchester, New York City and Long Island that lasts almost to midnight.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Rockland and Westchester counties for Thursday. The alert also covers Long Island and New York City. It begins at 11 a.m. and doesn't end till 11 p.m.
When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.
People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician.

While high ozone levels are normally restricted to the warm season, fine particles can be high at any time of year. These pollutants arise from sources such as cars, trucks and power plants, with fine particle levels also enhanced by forest fires and residential burning. To help reduce pollution levels, refrain from unnecessary driving and use public transportation if available.
While the air quality will be "unhealthy for sensitive groups" in Rockland and Westchester, it will only be "moderate" in the mid-Hudson Valley.

"The humidity will be thick on Thursday, translating those temps that approach 90° into ‘real feel’ temperatures in the low and mid 90s," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "So in short… Thursday is looking hot and humid, so be sure to stay well hydrated."
