Hudson Valley Forecast: Soaking Rain, Flooding Saturday

A Coastal Flood Advisory has been updated for the "firehose" of moisture expected to come up the river valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The region is going to get a lot of rain Saturday afternoon, forecasters say. In all 1 to 2 inches of rain are expected for the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England.

"A southerly fetch from the Atlantic Ocean will send a firehose of moisture up the Hudson River valley between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

The National Weather Service updated its coastal flood advisory for southern Westchester County, where up to one foot of inundation above ground level is expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.

The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shallow flooding is expected in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
