iPhone Scam Hits Rockland

NEW CITY, NY — Clarkstown police and Clarkstown residents report a rash of scams purporting to be from the Apple store in Nanuet. A message says there's a virus on the victim's phone and gives instructions for having it "fixed" that actually enable the scammer to break into the victim's computer.

The police department's Facebook post about the crime drew 70 comments, mostly from people who had been inundated with similar calls in the past month. Others told of similar scams.
