Local Communities Among Safest 'Cities' in America: New Report
See who made the list in SafeWise's 2016 rankings of safest cities in the U.S.A.

SafeWise released its 2016 list of Safest Cities in America -- and in the No. 1 spot is Lewisboro.
The security website analyzed FBI crime statistics from all 50 states and research on each city's public safety, public health, and educational offerings. SafeWise said:
Lewisboro Town is one of only three cities on this list that reported no violent crimes and the only city to have less than 1.0 property crimes per 1,000 people.

Why would a place that's almost ex-urban be called a city, you may ask? The list-makers consider any municipality with more than 8,000 people which filed a crime report a 'city' for the purposes of their rankings.
Also on the list was the town of Rye, clocking in at No. 19, and with an amusing description.

Rye even has a new program to support its animal inhabitants. The Rye Deer Hotline encourages residents to call in with any White Tail Deer sightings, so the town can better monitor and support its populations.
Coming in at No. 44 is Harrison. SafeWise cited its canine protectors, though not the current ones, which are Axel and Beni.
Harrison is one of our "Safest Cities in America" in part because of its two active K9-police dogs, Von and Arby, who help protect the town and people. Look for them patrolling the streets and keeping crime at bay.
No. 63 is Shawangunk Town. SafeWise said:
Known as a gateway to the outdoors and backdoor to the Shawangunk Wine Trail, the city can now tout its number 63 spot on the "Safest Cities in America" list, thanks to its low violent crime rates.
No. 72 is the town of North Castle, which got this description:
This formerly secluded village has kept its serenity while growing a booming economy. Thanks to big companies like IBM that are headquartered here, North Castle Town offers a multitude of jobs to residents.
Yorktown made the list, at No. 95.
What's not hard to believe are the town's low crime rates. The local police department has dedicated officers who work in the school systems to keep young students safe and their constant presence helps cut down on violence and mischief.
And Suffern made it, at No. 99 the only Rockland County community on the list. SafeWise said:
This tight-knit community watches each others' backs. Suffern Village supports community-policing programs that work closely with local organizations and groups to enhance the safety of the town's neighborhoods.
