Local Gas Prices Rising as Holiday Approaches

If you checked local gas-station signs in the past couple of days, you may have noticed the price for a gallon jumping ahead of the Easter holiday weekend.
Six weeks ago, some giddy gasoline observers predicted the price of a gallon could drop in some parts of the country to 99 cents this spring.

The New York state average is now at $2.10 a gallon, and the NYC metro area average is $2.17, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
Still -- this time last year we were paying $2.66 a gallon. And seven years ago, we were paying $4.41 a gallon.

Triple A says gas prices have increased largely due to seasonal increases in fuel demand and reduced production as some refineries conduct maintenance.
