Man Who Fell to His Death at the Palisades Mall Today Was Resident at a New York City Group Home

The group was on a day trip experiencing being out in the community.

Clarkstown Police held a press conference this afternoon to answer some of the questions about the incident at the Palisades Mall this morning, where a man fell from the third floor in one of the interior open spaces.

The 54-year-old died from injuries suffered from the fall to the first floor.

He was a resident of the New York Foundling group home, based out of 590 Avenue of The Americas, NY, NY, police said.

His name was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

As the investigation continues, preliminary evidence shows that this appears to have been a tragic accident, police said. The group of 1 staff and 3 individuals were on a habilitation day trip, getting the group out into the community.

Clarkstown police provided this statement released from The New York Foundling:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a beloved member of our community and extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. The safety of the individuals in our care is paramount, and we are doing everything we can to help determine what led to this terrible accident. Grief counselors are being made available to our staff and clients to provide support during this difficult time.
