Most People Hospitalized With COVID In Rockland Are Unvaccinated

The county health department has added that category to its coronavirus data graphics online.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Most of the people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Rockland County have not been vaccinated, county officials report.

That information has been added to the coronavirus dashboards Rockland health officials started keeping in the spring of 2020 as the pandemic got underway.

As of Aug. 19, there are 16 people in a hospital in Rockland with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Nine are unvaccinated, four are vaccinated. The vaccine status of three patients is unknown, according to the dashboard hub.

In the county, 59.1 percent of the population age 12 and up has received at least one dose of vaccine — but the vaccination rate varies widely from community to community. The vaccination rates for the population age 12 and up are only 20.85 percent in Monsey and 35 percent in Spring Valley, which have the most active cases.

In Rockland, 44 people tested positive for the coronavirus yesterday, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's briefing Friday afternoon. Since the pandemic began, there have been 48,569 reported cases. In all, 970 people have died of COVID-19 in Rockland, 71 of them since March 11.
