What business are you in?

Senior Helpers is one of the nation’s premier providers of personalized in-home senior care. Senior Helpers’ professionally trained caregivers help local seniors continue to enjoy the comfort of their own home despite age-related illnesses and mobility challenges.

Why start a business in this town?

“After dealing with very sick parents, senior care has been a cause close to my heart, and I was immediately drawn to Senior Helpers because of the quality services it offers, and how it is the first in the industry to provide specialized caregiver training in Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Parkinson’s disease care,” said Donohue. “Our team is proud to help our senior community maintain their independence by alleviating the stress associated with caregiving and ensuring a better quality of life for families through personalized in-home senior care.”

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced starting a new business?

One of our biggest challenges has been matching the right caregiver with the needs of our client. Personalization is important to us, and our client - caregiver coordinator does an excellent job vetting and training our staff to make sure everyone is matched with the right caregiver for their specific needs.

What’s one highlight you've had since opening?

We love to hear compliments from family members and hear how we have eased their stress levels with our dedicated care. It has been very rewarding to know we are making a difference in families' day-to-day lives.

How does your business give back to the community?

Senior Helpers operates with a vision to be the leading home care company in each community it serves. Its caregivers in Rockland are fully trained and certified to offer the highest level of care possible based on the company’s Senior Gems® Alzheimer’s and Dementia care program. As the gold standard for excellence in personalized in-home senior care, the program was developed in conjunction with nationally recognized dementia care expert Teepa Snow and is endorsed by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Local residents will also benefit from the company’s new Parkinson’s Care Program, a specialized training and certification program created in conjunction with leading experts from the National Parkinson Foundation’s Center of Excellence.
