New City Named among 'Cheating' Communities in Ashley Madison Hack

Hackers of the extramarital affairs website AshleyMadison.com have threatened to release potentially damaging information about users.

New City has been named as one of the leading communities in the New York Metro area for people seeking extramarital affairs, according to information released by hackers of the AshleyMadison.com website.

The Journal News reports that New City came in at #6 on a list of the top 10 communities in the New York region, where 2.57 percent of the population supposedly are looking for a little action on the sly. Zip codes were matched with Census data to determine the communities.

Wired Magazine reported Tuesday that hackers, who go by the name Impact Team, have claimed responsibility for posting about 9.7GB of data from two sites on the ”dark web,” an underground internet that can only be viewed with special browsers.

The hackers reportedly threatened to reveal personal information on more than 30 million users of the website, and a similar partner site called EstablishedMen.com, if owners do not shut them down. Both of the websites are owned by Toronto-based Avid Life Media, which has not taken down the sites.

The posted data included profile and account information, including names and addresses, and credit card transactions but not actual credit card numbers, according to Wired.
