New Year's Eve Forecast Released For The Hudson Valley

The end of December will be very different from the beginning, weather-wise, around the Hudson Valley.

Above-average temperatures from Boxing Day to New Year's Day in the Hudson Valley mean that everyone will be able to enjoy the holidays and the celebrations outdoors. There are some chances for rain, most notably Sunday and Monday.

The first possible precipitation is Thursday night into Friday, and it is slight, with the best chances confined to far northwestern portions of the Lower Hudson Valley, the National Weather Service predicts. High temperatures on Friday will range from the mid 40s to around 50, about 10 degrees above normal for late December.

"The upper air pattern won’t allow for the cold air to drop into the United States… at least not until we get closer to the New Year," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "That will mean above average temperatures … and minimal, if any, chances for snow between now and January 1st."

While the low temperature on New Years Eve will drop below freezing, it won't be by much. That makes it perfect for a bundled-up excursion to any of the many places welcoming in the year 2020, whether it be at ball drop extravaganzas in Peekskill or White Plains, the 7 p.m. fireworks show at Westchester Winter Wonderland, or the granddaddy of them all in Times Square.

Here's the detailed forecast:
