NJ Man Gave Rockland Surrogate's Court Falsified Bank Statements: DA

Prosecutors say that he not only provided the forged documents to the court, he also testified, under oath, to their validity.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — An attempt to deceive A Rockland County court has landed a New Jersey man in hot water, according to prosecutors.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced on Thursday that 50-year-old James Wolff, of Teaneck, New Jersey, was arraigned before Judge Pollock in the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court on Monday, on one felony first degree count of offering a false instrument for filing and felony second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

In June of this year, an investigation was conducted by the Rockland County DA’s Office Special Investigations Unit after Wolff knowingly possessed and submitted falsified bank statements to the Rockland County Surrogate’s Court and testified, under oath, to their validity. According to the DA's Office, the documents he filed were falsely made and altered and submitted, with the intent to deceive the court.

"As alleged, the defendant filed false bank statements with the court," the DA said. "Trying to deceive the court is a serious offense and has consequences. I commend the investigation by the Rockland County DA Special Investigations Unit and thank our law enforcement partners who assisted with the case."

The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Special Investigations Unit says that it received assistance from the Clarkstown Police Department.
