North Relay Team Gets Off To Fast Start In Spring Season

The team, made up of Aidan Devin, Billy DeLay, Jeremy Job and Dennis O'Connor, won the 800 meter relay

The Clarkstown North boys 4x200 meter relay team ended its indoor season at the state qualifier, but got off to a fast start in their spring season over the weekend, as they look to build on their winter season.

The team — junior Aidan Devin and seniors Billy DeLay, Jeremy Job and Dennis O’Connor — won the 800 meter relay at Saturday’s Ram Relays, their home meet to kick off the spring season.

“We’re expecting big things this year from the relay,” Job said. “We’re looking to improve from the winter season. We want to get to states.”

Winter and spring North track Head Coach Adam Shavitz said it’s possible for the team to get to states.

“They’ve got to just run fast,” he said. “If they continue to improve and lower their times, they can certainly make it.”

Another positive for the team is they’re healthy to start the year. DeLay injured his right hamstring during the indoor winter season and missed a few weeks. Shavitz said DeLay is healthy for the spring.

“They hit a blip in the wind during the winter season because of the injury,” Shavitz said. “They were looking to come on strong to start the spring and they certainly did that.”

Not only did the relay squad have success in the relay, three members also took home top honors in individual events as well. DeLay won the 100 meter, Job won the high jump and O’Connor won the long jump.

“That’s the thing about them: they’re not just a good relay team, but they’re three really good specialists as well,” Shavitz said.

Job said his winning jump of 5 foot 10 inches was a decent start to the season, but he’s looking to get to the point where he’s jumping 6 feet, or 6 feet 2 inches.

“This is around what I usually do,” Job said of his winning jump. “What I want to do is get up there a bit more. I just have to keep working hard and hitting the weight room.”
