SLOATSBURG, NY — New York State police identified the severely injured driver in Monday morning's crash on I-87 as Louis M. Lupo, 52, of New Windsor, NY. He remains in critical condition, police said.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Lupo drove off the road and hit a tractor trailer parked on the shoulder, police said. The truck driver, David M. Bucci, 43, of Bel Air, MD, was in the sleeping berth of the tractor trailer when the collision occurred and was not injured.

The front of the car was pinned under the tractor trailer. Sloatsburg firefighters extricated Lupo who was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.
