Police Make Arrests In Attempted Robbery On Old Nyack Turnpike

Detectives arrested two 20-year-olds, one from Hillcrest and one from Monsey.

RAMAPO, NY — Ramapo police detectives recently arrested two men for an attempted robbery that took place on Dec. 16. Two people approached the victims, a man and woman, as they left a drug store on Old Nyack Turnpike in the Town of Ramapo.

One of the men displayed a knife and attempted to steal the man's wallet. As the woman called 911, one of the suspects slashed the tires on the victim’s car. The suspects fled before police arrived.

After investigation, detectives arrested a 20-year-old from Hillcrest and a 20-year old from Monsey. One of the suspects was known to a Ramapo police officer from a previous arrest.

"This officer provided assistance to our detectives with locating and arresting this defendant," Ramapo police officials said.

Both were charged with Attempted Robbery 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, Menacing 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree. One was arraigned and released on $1,000 cash bail. The second was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
