Pomona American Legion Post Commander Maureen Morgan Receives Freedom Award

The Rockland County annual award is presented as part of Women's History Month

Pomona resident Maureen F. Morgan is the latest recipient of Rockland County’s annual Freedom Award, which has been presented for the past three years to honor one local female veteran of the armed services.

“It is an honor to recognize the service of Petty Officer Morgan,” said County Executive Ed Day. “The courage and sacrifice she displayed while serving our nation has contributed to the freedoms and opportunities we benefit from every day in America. The Rockland County Freedom Award serves as a testament of thanks from all of our residents.”

Morgan is the Commander of American Legion Post 199—the first woman to serve in that role.

In addition to her four years of exemplary military service, Petty Officer Morgan has played an exceptional role in our community, Day said. She has been active in the Spring Valley High School Drama Department, works as a statistician for varsity and junior varsity basketball and football games and volunteers as regular test proctor for SAT and ACT exams in the East Ramapo Central School District.
