Private Sector Jobs Hold Steady in the Hudson Valley
The March blizzard affected the job count statewide.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — New York State's private sector job count declined by 5,500, or 0.1 percent, in March 2017. But that may have been more due to snow than anything else. And the private-sector jobs held steady in Hudson Valley's metro areas.
“The overall private sector job count, measured during the week of the blizzard in March, declined slightly,” said Bohdan M. Wynnyk, Deputy Director of the New York State Department of Labor’s Division of Research and Statistics.
The State’s private sector job count is based on a payroll survey of 18,000 New York employers conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. Monthly payroll employment estimates are preliminary and subject to revision as more data becomes available the following month.

The job growth rate was the same for the Orange-Rockland-Westchester metro region, where 7,700 private sector and government jobs were added in the 12 months. The Dutchess-Putnam metro area saw no private sector job growth in the 12 months ending in March 2017, but did post a tiny gain in government jobs: +200.
But none of the metro areas in the Hudson Valley added enough private sector jobs in the past year to get onto the state Labor Department's rapid-growth list.
Twelve metro areas in New York State added private sector jobs over the past year, with the most rapid growth in these areas:
- Glens Falls(+2.6%)
- Ithaca (+2.5%)
- Watertown-Fort Drum (+1.7%)
- Nassau-Suffolk (+1.5%)
- New York City (+1.5%)
- Utica-Rome (+1.4%)
