Rally At Rockland Legislature To Support Bail Reform

A demonstration is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Supporters of New York state's bail reform laws have scheduled a demonstration at the Rockland County Legislature Tuesday night. NY-17 Democratic congressional candidate Mondaire Jones, a South Nyack resident, said he plans to speak at the rally and at the Rockland County Legislature meeting, which starts at 7 p.m.

The rally was organized by the Rockland Coalition to End the New Jim Crow. The demonstration is scheduled begin at 6 p.m.

Jones is a 32-year old former Obama administration staffer, community leader, and attorney running to represent New York's 17th Congressional District, the seat from which longtime Rep. Nita Lowey is retiring.

Raised in Spring Valley by a single mother who worked multiple jobs and still needed a Section 8 housing voucher, Jones attended East Ramapo public schools and Stanford University before graduating from Harvard Law School.
