'RAPTOR' Unit Drone Helps Find Domestic Violence Suspect On The Run From Above

RAMAPO, NY — Cops were able to rely on a little help from above when Ramapo police responded to a report of a woman assaulted by her boyfriend.

The suspect had fled the scene in a white taxicab, after reportedly hitting the woman in the face. At the time of the domestic violence call, the RAPTOR unit was already airborne on another mission and was quickly redirected to assist.

The Paladin DFR drone located the white taxi and tracked it to a Hillcrest area driveway, where two occupants could be seen exiting the cab and entering a home. One of those passengers was identified as the assault suspect being sought by police.

Based on this real-time information, officers were directed to the home, and the suspect was soon under arrest.

"This is another example of how our Paladin DFR program helps officers quickly and precisely direct resources where they are needed most," the Town of Ramapo Police Department said in a statement.

The 27-year-old suspect was arraigned on an assault charge, released on an appearance ticket, and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, according to police.
