Rockland County Gov.: Emergency Rental Assistance Program Expanded

New City, NY, - County Executive Ed Day and Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Joan Silvestri announced that the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) have expanded the eligibility of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

Beginning today, Wednesday, September 15, 2021, New York State is accepting applications for rental assistance from households adversely impacted by the pandemic and earning between 80 percent and 120 percent of the area median income (AMI), a group that was previously ineligible to receive help from the state's Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

80 percent and 120 percent of the area median income (AMI)
The Emergency Rental Assistance Program assists households behind on their rent that have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 and are at risk of homelessness or housing instability.
“Rockland tenants have been approved for nearly $3,000,000 in rental assistance so far through this program. I urge all residents that are eligible to apply as soon as possible as funds are limited,” said County Executive Ed Day.

Applications from households with income up to 100 percent AMI will be prioritized for processing through October 29, 2021. After that, all applications for households with income up to 120% AMI will be processed on a first come, first-served basis.
