Rockland Jurist Named To State Court Of Claims

David Fried has served as a Ramapo Town justice and a Spring Valley Village justice.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A Rockland County attorney, politician and judge has been appointed to the New York State Court of Claims.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced David Fried and 10 other appointments, plus four reappointments to the New York State Court of Claims on June 7.

"I have full faith that this historic and outstanding group of appointees will serve New Yorkers with fairness and impartiality," Hochul said in a news release. "With diverse perspectives and extensive expertise, I'm confident that each appointee will bring honor and integrity to New York State's judiciary."

Fried has served as Town Justice for the Town of Ramapo since 2019 and as Village Justice for the Village of Spring Valley since 2015. He currently is the Co-Chair of the Ninth Judicial District Access to Justice, LGBTQ+ Sub-Committee.

Additionally, Fried served as a legislator in Rockland County from 2003 to 2007. Fried has been the president of the Law Offices of David Fried since 2014.

The New York State Court of Claims is the exclusive forum for civil litigation seeking damages against the State of New York or certain other State-related entities such as the New York State Thruway Authority, the City University of New York, the Olympic Regional Development Authority, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute Corporation and the New York State Power Authority (claims for the appropriation of real property only).
