Rockland’s Ghost Town: Explore the Mysteries of Doodletown
Former Resident will share stories about life in Doodletown on guided walk.
Docent Louise Parnell and former Doodletown resident Ellen McGuire will lead a four to five mile, moderate to difficult (3-sneaker) walk in the remains of the intriguing former town in northern Rockland. The walk on Saturday, April 21 will feature a first-hand account of life in the hamlet, a review of the history of Doodletown, and a discussion about reasons Doodletown was transformed from a community of homes, a church and a school back to a tract of land nearly in its natural state. The three-hour walk begins at 10 a.m.
“The last homes were demolished in the sixties, but lilacs and daffodils still bloom next to steps that lead to nowhere.” Elizabeth “Perk” Stalter.
