Rockland Welcomes Some of NY's Best Little League Baseball Players

West Nyack Little League hosts barbecue to welcome teams competing in New York State Little League Championship at Dexter Field at Germonds Park.

If you want to see some of New York's best baseball, you don't have to travel to the city.

West Nyack Little League is hosting the New York State Little League Championship at its complex at Germonds Park in West Nyack, with play scheduled to begin today at 5:30 p.m. The tournament is part of the "Road to Williamsport" - with the winner continuing in regional competitions that lead to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The volunteer organizers of West Nyack Little League on Wednesday sponsored a party at Germonds for the teams particpating in the tournament, including Rockland County's own team from Stony Point.

Here are the teams in the tournament:

NYS Little League Section 1:  Auburn  DISTRICT-5  (233 miles - 4hr 18min away)

NYS Section 2:  Maine-Endwell  DISTRICT-7  (178 miles - 3hr 12min)

NYS Section 3:  East Greenbush Castleton  DISTRICT-14  (132 miles - 2hr 15min)

NYS Section 4:  Stony Point  DISTRICT-18  (11 miles - 21min)

NYS Section 5:  South Shore National  DISTRICT-24  (57 miles - 1hr 17min)

NYS Section 6:  Sunrise  DISTRICT-35  (71 miles - 1hr 36min)

 The action begins at West Nyack's Dexter Field at 5:30 p.m. with Maine-Endwell  vs.  South Shore. Following that game, East Greenbush  plays  Stony Point at 7:45 p.m.

The schedule includes two games on Friday, four games on Saturday, two games on Sunday and the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Dexter Field.
