NEW CITY, NY — Clarkstown residents approved a 2019-20 school budget on Tuesday.
The $213.2 million proposed budget was approved with 79 percent of the vote. The budget is a 2.06 percent spending increase over the current year and it comes with a 2.27 percent hike in the school tax levy. That is within the state's tax cap for the district so the budget only needed to be approved by a majority vote.
School board incumbents Daniel Cazes, Zizette Deutsch and Walter Litvak sought re-election and two challengers sought trustee seats. The top two vote-getters will serve 3-year terms and the third a 1-year term to complete the term vacated by former BOE member Darin Diamond.
