Sign of Spring: Clarkstown Yard Waste Program Starts Up

It's officially spring, and the Clarkstown Highway Department is starting the Yard Waste Pick up program up for 2016.

To provide a fast and efficient yard waste pickup, all of the roads in Clarkstown are divided into routes. During yard waste collection, there are 56 routes made up of 1,400 Town roads (300 miles), 43 miles of County roads and 28 miles of State roads.

Check the town website here to find out when your street is on the yard waste pickup rotation.

Town officials remind residents that the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority’s (RCSWMA) Mulch Facility and Compost Site will only accept yard waste from the Town that is properly sorted.

Therefore, you must separate your yard waste, as described below. If you have any questions or for more information, please call the RCSWMA at (845)753-2200.

Brush, twigs, branches and hedge clippings—Tie into bundles no longer than 5 ft. in length and no heavier than 50 lbs.

Place logs in neat stacks at the curb—Logs less than 6 in. in diameter and no more than 5 ft. in length.

Bagged leaves—Only biodegradable bagged leaves will be picked up during the Yard Waste Program.

• No plastic bags. Plastics do not biodegrade and cannot be mixed in with yard waste.
• Large piles that are not tied and bundled in small manageable amounts or bagged will have to wait until the equipment needed is available and cannot be held to the published scheduled dates.

For other kinds of yard waste:

• Grass, thatch, stumps, rocks and dirt are not picked up by the Clarkstown Highway. Residents must make their own arrangements to drop off grass, thatch and tree stumps at the RCSWMA Mulch Facility and Compost Site.

Clarkstown residents are able to drop off yard waste at the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority’s Mulch Facility and Compost Site on Rt. 303 in West Nyack during the following hours:

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon

Please use the Rt. 303 southbound entrance of the transfer station to drop off your yard waste.
