Snow Totals Rise: Winter Storm Warning In Rockland

Snow accumulation predictions have risen as well.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY: noon — The National Weather Service predicted snow totals of 5-10 inches for northern Westchester in its 11:30 a.m. briefing.


The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning Thursday morning for Rockland, Putnam and northern Westchester counties. With the heightened level of alert has come an increase in the prediction of snow accumulation.

The storm, which will become an intense Nor'easter by Thursday afternoon, is still expected to have most impact on eastern New England and Canada. The Hudson Valley will be most effected east of the Hudson River.

Hudson Valley Weather predicts that eastern Rockland could get 4-8 inches of snow while western Rockland could see just 2-6.

The storm warning is in effect until 1 a.m. Friday.

WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute. Snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour are possible this morning into early afternoon. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected.
WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. Wind gusts as high as 45 mph will cause local areas of blowing and drifting snow, and bring down a few tree limbs and powerlines.

School districts in Rockland County have closed.

After the storm, it will get much colder in the Hudson Valley, and wind chills will be way below zero into the weekend.
