Village Elections Mean Change For Ramapo
There were several contested elections Tuesday.
Changes are coming to Ramapo now that voters in three villages picked officials in Tuesday's hotly contested, three-way local elections. In Airmont and Pomona, they ousted incumbents and picked officials who support policies desired by the Hasidic community. In Chestnut Ridge, they returned to office two supportive trustees, The Journal News reported.
The issues have to do primarily with houses of worship, residential zoning and private schools.
In Pomona, Ian Banks won the mayoral race, and running mates Carol McFarlane and Ilan Fuchs are the incoming trustees. In Airmont, Nathan R. Bubel won the mayoral race with Brian M. Downey and Migdalia Pesante running for trustee seats. In Chestnut Ridge, incumbents Grant Valentine and Paul Van Alstyne were returned to office.
