Weekend Snow Update for Putnam, Rockland, Westchester

The storm meteorologists have been tracking is moving farther east of the Hudson Valley, and that is causing snow accumulation forecasts to plummet.

"We literally had data showing a foot of snow just over 24 hours ago and now data has nothing," said Bill Potter from Hudson Valley Weather on Saturday morning. "This is why it’s important to not forecast with data, we saw all the same snow maps floating around the Internet, and even saw maps showing how much, now those maps are all null and void."

The National Weather Service still has a Hazardous Weather Outlook posted for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties:

IT IS BECOMING LESS LIKELY THAT A COASTAL LOW SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT WILL PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACROSS THE REGION. HOWEVER...THERE STILL REMAINS SOME UNCERTAINTY IN THE FORECAST TRACK AND INTENSITY OF THE LOW. AT THIS TIME...THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE LIKELY TO FALL ACROSS EASTERN LONG ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST CONNECTICUT.

This has been the pattern all winter, Potter pointed out. "This has been a year like no other when it comes to storms avoiding our area. Never before have I seen so many promising setups end up fizzling to nothing. To drive home this point we have seen the least snow this season in some 120 years of data capture."

For the weekend, the NWS says it'll be sunny and cold on Saturday, with temps below freezing overnight; then cloudy on Sunday with highs in the mid-30s. Chance of snow on Sunday 50 percent -- and the chance of snow on Sunday night is 70 percent.
