Welcome to New City Patch!

We are a new hyperlocal Web site, dedicated to bringing you essential news and information about New City.

As the first Patch site to launch in Rockland County, we're excited about getting to know New City and covering all the things that matter to residents. Patch has already launched 40-plus sites in Westchester, New Jersey, Connecticut and beyond.

Like them, New City will have a directory of local businesses, organizations and important people and places. We'll cover everything from local government and police issues to arts and entertainment. We'll also have a comprehensive events calendar and announcements section.

While Patch is new to Rockland, our people are not. For example, New City Patch Editor William Demarest is a veteran local journalist who has lived and worked in Rockland for more than 20 years. He has raised a family here and volunteered in the community, helping to put on school plays and run youth sports leagues.

The Directory and Local Facts

Our listings include information about local businesses, such as hours of operation and services. We also include maps and photos of most businesses in our listings section. The directory has similar information about local government agencies, civic organizations, parks and schools. The Local Facts section has valuable information about local officials, and information that will assist you in navigating local government.

Events and Announcements

Our events calendar will be your source for everything that is happening in New City. It will include everything from club meetings to recreation events and programs, and so much more. Our events team does a great job but we can always use your help, so feel free to upload events to New City Patch. Our announcements section is a great way for you to share important accomplishments or life events with your community. Did your child get a school award or get engaged? Did you just get promoted? Do you want to thank a neighbor for helping in a time of need? Post it on our announcements page and let everyone in New City celebrate the good news.

News

The news section will feature stories about topics such as politics, schools, sports and business.  Editor William Demarest and his reporters will be all over New City, learning the news, covering events and getting to know the community. We plan to tell these stories in story form and using multimedia, so photos and videos will accompany much of the content you see on our site.

We want the New City community to be a part of making our site even better. We want to help local organizations by publicizing their news and helping them recruit volunteers, which can be done through our site's volunteer section. We want you to upload your events and announcements, tell us about the community groups you're involved in and send us news tips and story ideas. We're also looking for local writers, videographers and columnists, so email me at williamd@patch.com if you want to contribute.
