Windy Now, Polar Vortex Swinging Southward

The work-week wind storm had high winds blowing at about 30MPH overnight, with the highest wind gust in the lower Hudson Valley reported at 47MPH in Ossining last evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Thousands of customers lost power.

The Wind Advisory ends at noon Tuesday for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, but extends into the afternoon and early evening for Ulster, Columbia, Dutchess and Greene counties.

"Sustained winds again between 10 and 20mph, with gusts over 40mph possible," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "If you are travelling on Tuesday, you’ll want to use extra caution… as this kind of wind can pull the wheel out of your hands if you aren’t paying close attention."

In addition to the wind, temps will only make it to about 50 degrees. "Quite a chilly turn of events," he said.

And the wild weather isn't over, according to AccuWeather.com.

While it should be mild through the end of the work week, then we'll start seeing temps 10-20 degrees below normal. Quite a swing from the 10-20 degrees above normal we saw the second week in March.

"The latest indications are the core of the coldest air associated with the polar vortex will track a bit farther north and east, compared to the outlook from last week," according to AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Edward Vallee.

The main thrust of cold air will aim at the Great Lakes, New England and the northern part of the mid-Atlantic, he predicted.

The Hudson Valley could see a few snow showers on Saturday, and a hard freeze on Saturday night, with the lows near 20 degrees, according to HVW.

At least it will be sunny today, and Wednesday is expected to be very nice.
