YouTube Video Compares Rockland County to Nazi Germany

It was created by the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council.

A YouTube video created by the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council comparing a range of issues in Rockland County to the problems faced by Jews in France now or in Germany in the 1930s has caused some consternation.

The video not only touches on conflicts between some local Hasidic communities and their neighbors, but also quotes cartoons and anti-Semitic remarks by commenters on social media, particularly on the Facebook page Block the Block Vote.

“Who in Rockland County is apparently trying to paint swastikas over each and every one of the citizens of Rockland County? Who is crying anti-Semitism when people exercise their right of freedom of speech to question the growth in Medicaid expenses in Rockland, the lack of adherence to zoning laws in Ramapo, and the deterioration of the public schools in East Ramapo? There is hardly one family in Rockland County who does not have a relative who fought against Nazism and there are many who gave their lives doing so.”
