8 Siemens Semifinalists From Herricks Recognized by Town
Twenty-five local students from North Hempstead were named semifinalists in this year's Siemens Competition.

Several local students named semifinalists in this year’s Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology were recognized for their academic excellence by the Town of North Hempstead on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
The Siemens Competition is one of the nation’s premier science research competitions for high school students. Out of the 460 semifinalists, 25 of these students call the Town of North Hempstead home.
“What an amazing accomplishment! This once again reminds us of the quality of our schools in North Hempstead, and the amazing administrators, educators and students that we have,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a press release.
Two students were named finalists in the competition and received the $100,000 grand prize. Kimberly Te and Christine Yoo from Manhasset High School created microbial fuel cells designed to clean up oil spills or to provide power to developing countries by speeding up the breakdown of sediment and other matter.
