Mutual aid from Elmont, Garden City, Malverne and West Hempstead Fire Departments brought the total firefighting presence to 60 firefighters, officials said. That 60-person force brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes and managed to contain the fire, stopping it from spreading to adjacent businesses, the fire marshal’s office said.

In the aftermath of the fire, the Town of Hempstead Building Department is investigating the damage to the garage while the fire marshal inspections bureau is also inspecting it, officials said. The fire marshal’s office and NCPD arson/bomb detectives are also investigating to determine the cause of the fire, officials said.
