ELMONT, NY — A man was arrested after beating two women — a 58-year-old and an 88-year-old — and stabbing one of them in the leg in a fight in Elmont on Saturday, Nassau police said.
Officers responding to a home on Empire Street at around 1:45 p.m. for a disturbance were informed a verbal argument had occurred between a 31-year-old man, and the two women, according to police.
The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which he stabbed the 58-year-old in the leg and struck her in the head with a flower pot, causing a laceration, police said.
He then broke the bedroom door of the 88-year-old and proceeded to strike her with a cane before running away, according to police.
The women immediately dialed 911, and both were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are listed in stable condition, police said.
The man was found and placed under arrest without incident. He was also taken to a local hospital for evaluation, according to police.
Winstead is charged with first-degree assault, three
counts of second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, and will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
