Bicyclist Killed in North New Hyde Park Crash

The Wednesday morning crash is under investigation, police say.

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday morning in North New Hyde Park, police say.

According to authorities, a 50-year-old man driving a 2017 Subaru was traveling southbound in the right hand lane of New Hyde Park Road near Marcus Avenue when he struck a bicyclist who crossed over into his lane of traffic at 1:20 a.m.

The bicyclist, a 74-year-old man, was thrown off his bicycle from the collision. Police responded to the scene to find the man unconscious and unresponsive.

The man was transported to an area hospital to be treated for multiple trauma injuries and was later pronounced dead. The man’s name is being withheld at this time pending family notification.

The Subaru received a brake and safety check and was released back to the owner at the scene.

Police say the accident is non-criminal and continues to be investigated.
