You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, New Hyde Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
Kiss’o Japanese Cuisine
Located in the Lake Success Shopping Center, Kiss’o, a quaint escape from the bustling parking lot outside of its doors, offers traditional Japanese fare and sushi to hungry shoppers along the strip.

As described by Manager Julie Chan, Kiss’o is “a true Japanese restaurant,” adding, “We’ve been in the market for over 15 years.”
With an extensive sushi and sashimi menu, Kiss’o was listed as one of the “Top 10 Sushi Sensations” by Newsday in 2008 with extra points for freshness. Sushi is available by plate or by piece in addition to an always-changing selection of raw fish specials.

The spicy tuna tartar appetizer is one of the restaurant’s best-selling dishes, along with the chef special or “moriawase” as it is known in Japanese. A great option for sharing, a moriwase platter is made up of several selected sashimi items and can serve three or more people.
For around twenty dollars, customers can sample two appetizers and two entrees with one of Kiss’o’s bento box dinners, available in chicken, salmon or beef. Providing an even bigger bang for your buck, the boxes come with a small miso soup, side salad and scoop of ice cream for dessert.
Other entrées on the menu include a variety of tempura and teriyaki dishes as well as a selection of noodle bowls.
For dessert, Kiss’o is noted for serving bubble tea, a unique sweet beverage made with large, black tapioca pearls called “boba.” The “mysterious marbles” as they are explained on the menu, travel up large, specially made straws to greet those who sip it with a surprising gummy texture. There is a menu just for bubble teas with flavors such as mango, coconut, and strawberry.
Kiss’o is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and takeout. Private "tatami" rooms in the back can be intimate enough for parties of five to nine people or can be expanded to fit up to eighteen.
