You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, New Hyde Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
From chicken wings to filet mignon with lobster mashed potatoes, you’ll find a range of enticing American comfort classics at Tavern 18. A reflection of the food that it serves, the restaurant/bar is inviting yet non-pretentious.

It’s “a very cool atmosphere to come hang out,” says Manager Marco DiBenedetto, who points out that while customers can enjoy quality food and good service, the setting is relaxed and “not too stuffy.”
If you are looking to unwind with a drink or two, Tavern 18's fully-stocked bar is open for happy hour all week long; if you are more interested in settling down for a meal, there are plenty of familiar favorites to feast on.

For starters, a few of the most popular appetizers include shrimp tempura with sweet chili mayo and Kobe beef sliders. A brief raw bar menu is also offered.
Hand cut prime steaks specials are available daily. The porter house for two, prime rib, New York strip and t-bone are some of the cuts prepared. All steaks are accompanied by traditional sides and sauces.
Beyond steak, Shepherd’s pie, southern fried chicken, and the restaurants infamous 10 ounce charbroiled “Tavern Burger” served on a brioche bun, are available to satisfy a number of cravings. Other entrées include pasta and fish dishes, salads, and sandwiches.
Tavern 18 is open for dinner all week long, and lunch every day except for Monday. The dining rooms can also be booked for private banquets.
On Sundays, a satisfying brunch menu comes with a few added perks. “Everybody...raves about our brunch,” said DiBenedetto of the service, which features unlimited Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Screwdrivers throughout the meal.
The restaurant will be hosting its third annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration with Irish food, a DJ and drink specials all day.
