Elmont High Schooler Wins Jimmy Award
Elmont Memorial High School's Ekele Ukegbu won first place at the Jimmy Awards for excellence in musical theatre.
From Syntax: Elmont Memorial High School’s Ekele Ukegbu won first place at the Jimmy Awards on June 24. The National High School Musical Theatre Awards (the Jimmy Awards), presented by The Broadway League Foundation, recognize individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance.
Ekele performed an absolutely outstanding rendition of “I’m Here” from the “Color Purple.” She was awarded a $25,000 scholarship and the opportunity to perform at BroadwayCon in January 2020. Principal Kevin Dougherty and the entire school community congratulate Ekele on this outstanding achievement!
